SERVICE RIFLE SHOOT COOLILUP 4TH-5TH NOVEMBER 2017
The 2017 Service rifle shoot at Coolilup has been run and the results posted.
It was a great weekend that all and sundry enjoyed. Some shooters showed why they are the states best , some had to take a bit of a look inside themselves and self access their results but all agreed that the format was a winner. It exposed shooters to some new courses of fire that make it realistic but enjoyable and tested even the old dogs amongst us. Challenging was a common word used to describe it.
Many went away with an appreciation of their shooting program at their home club and I guess a few changes will be asked for as many saw this weekend as the future of service shooting in this state. It encompasses some of the old with some of the new and the intro of open class as a competitive class next year will see some new gear and ideas on the mound. We must make it inclusive of all who wish to shoot and own a long arm. Service rifle shooting can achieve this by offering a class or category of rifle that will please everybody. No one is trying take away the standard or vintage category but just offering alternatives to trying to keep a vintage class rifle operating and keeping it fed with ammo. Open class offers this avenue.
Some honourable mentions; Matt Lewis for taking out the standard and S2 categories. Matt has once again affirmed he is the top shooter in the state and is up there in the top few of the nations service shooters. Year in year out he produces the goods, one can only watch in awe as he plonks round after round into the 5 ring to produce the high standard of shooting that he does.
Jack Nixon and Roger Cook need mentioning as well for taking out the S1 category. They proved that a 75 year old plus rifle with a 3 power optic can still produce the goods today. It is especially pleasing as some of the competitors in this class thought they had it sewn up with their SSG 69's which fall into S1 class. Yes they where ahead of their time but hey guys you must know how to use them to get the best out of a fine piece of machinery.
AFDRA need to be recognised for they had the largest contingent from any club, association front up for the weekend. From all of us here at Busselton thanks guys for turning up and making it a fantastic weekend.
Also everyone else who showed up we thank as well, you made it worthwhile for this event and hopefully we will get the same if not more attend next year now that everyone knows it is back on . We intend to keep this event going every year and make it the most enjoyable but competitive event in the state.
Again many thanks to everyone who attended and also to local members who have gone out of their way to help out and make it a proud representation of how we do business at Busselton Rifle Club.
There will be a gallery of pictures within the next couple of weeks hopefully. Anyone who has pics or video of the weekend and don't mind them being published, please send them to me at

UPDATE 2
There are some changes to the awards and prizes. Instead of badges being awarded for every class in every event, it will be just the top three of each class. The scores used to redeem this will be the combined scores of the rifleman and marksman for service rifle and combined scores of the two sniper shoots for the sniper classes. The prize table will still be presented.

UPDATE
There has been an update to the format. In the 7 Stand run through event, the timings have changed. Instead of 60 secs to fire your 5 rds , you now have 45 secs and instead of 2 mins to change over and prep time between stands, you now have only 90 secs. Use it wisely!!!
Also it looks like BBQ packs will be available to buy for a feed. Saves you bringing some down!!!
